Peel befriended Bierman and he soon became a member of "David Peel and The Lower East Side Band." It was this collaboration that would forever change the direction of Bierman’s life.

During this time, Peel introduced Bierman to a man that everlastingly influenced him and millions of others: John Lennon. Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono produced the "David Peel and The Lower East Side" album "The Pope Smokes Dope" in 1972. It was behind the scenes during these recording sessions that Lennon and Bierman secretly became friends.

This hushed friendship lasted for several years. Over this time, the two friends created a solid bond and wrote timeless songs together. One fateful day in 1980 tragically cut short Lennon’s life, but his words and music would live on forever. Devastated by his friend’s death, Bierman held on to the songs he and John worked on together, and told no one, but a few friends, about them for many years. Few others knew these songs even existed by word of mouth.

It was always difficult for Bierman to share his story with others because of disbelief and ridicule, so Bierman mostly kept his story to himself all these years.
